In Situ Residency

November - December 2021

The residency will take place in November and December 2021 as part of the imminent restoration of the last preserved atelier of the historical artists community of Cité Falguière in Paris. The Atelier 11 cultural heritage project has been initiated with the vision of establishing an International Arts Research Residency dedicated to the intercultural exchange as the legacy of the École de Paris.

Part 1: In Situ Installations

Before embarking on the restoration and construction programme and to celebrate atelier’s historical legacy as artists community, L'AiR Arts has invited local and international artists to engage in a creative transformation of the Atelier 11 by working directly with the building as both object and subject of their work. Selected artists will be invited to take over the Atelier and experiment with new ways to conceive artworks with what the site has to offer (space, history, materials, and the dynamics of decay).

The creative output will be presented with exhibition events before the renovations and restoration works begin.

Part 2: Upcycling Art Residency

Open to all artists who wish to participate in the deconstruction of the atelier by selecting the potentially interesting residue and discarded materials to use in their artistic projects. Related to the phenomenon of upcycling or the Arte Povera movement, artists are invited to engage in a creative transformation of the found objects into artistic works that extend the historic legacy embedded in these materials.

Artists can explore the atelier in its pre-construction state, and then come back after the construction team dismantles the site to pick up available materials for further production in their own studios.

Dates TBA

As a continuation of our photography project, selected photographic artists are invited to document this historic moment and to create a portrait of each artist who comes to collect materials. Each participating artist will also be asked to document their creative process and the outcome, mentioning the project and the source of materials.
