Inaugural Residency at Atelier 11
August 20 - September 20, 2021
The residency will take place from mid August until mid September as part of the imminent restoration of the last preserved atelier of the historical artists community of Cité Falguière in Paris. The Atelier 11 cultural heritage project has been initiated with the vision of establishing an International Arts Research Residence dedicated to the intercultural exchange as the legacy of the École de Paris.
Built in the 1870s in Montparnasse, during its 150 years of artistic history Cité Falguière served as a working and living place to many French and international sculptors and painters of the École de Paris group, including, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaïm Soutine, Tsuguharu Foujita, Constantin Brancusi, and Paul Gauguin. For a period of time, Amedeo Modigliani and Chaïm Soutine lived and worked under the same roof at the Atelier 11. The shared studio provided artists with the opportunity for exchange, encouragement and shared inspirations.

Palazzo Monti x L'AiR Arts
To revisit the Atelier's history as a place for intercultural artistic exchange and to mark the beginning of its new chapter, L’AiR Arts has partnered with Palazzo Monti to curate the first residency in support for cross-cultural dialogue between France and Italy. Following the continuous effort of nourishing national and international community of alumni, Edoardo Monti has invited Italian sculptress Ambra Castagnetti to engage in a creative exchange with L'AiR Arts alumna, French painter Lauren Coullard.
The objective of this inaugural program is to facilitate the continuity between centuries and to preserve the link between past and future. While honouring past artist residents of Cité Falguière, the aim of this project is to actively participate in writing the history of today. Atelier 11 residency will address the historical gender imbalance with the aim to transform this place known for prominent male residents, to become a space where women artists are celebrated.
