In March 2025, L’AiR Arts is pleased to host a special residency program celebrating the contributions of women artists to the rich artistic history of Montparnasse. Organized as part of the the 150th Anniversary of Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, the program will also honour its last historical resident, artist Mira Maodus, who lived and worked at Atelier 11 for nearly fifty years.
Structured as a forum within the L'AiR Arts curated residency program, this immersive two-week residency will provide a stimulating experience of intercultural exchange while engaging with the vibrant history and contemporary scene in Paris. Titled Avant-Femme/Avant-Garde, there will be a focus on highlighting research that centres the artistic practices of women during the height of the École de Paris. With access to historic locations, sites of research and professional exchange sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the inclusive history of the École de Paris, while developing lasting connections with fellow residents, expanding their international creative network and presenting their work to a broader community.
Focusing on expanded art practices, such as installation, alternative media, creative writing and performance, the program brings together professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds, selected from an open call of over 600 applications. With an inclusive approach, the residency welcomes artists and cultural professionals who identify as women (cis and trans inclusive) or gender diverse, as well as those whose practices intersect with these identities.

Falling within the duration of the residency are various international art fairs, along with numerous gallery and museum exhibitions, making this an especially exciting, vibrant and culturally rich time to experience Paris. The focus of this program will tie into these events, to ensure programming which maximises the opportunities and engagement relevant to the activities within the local arts scene.
In keeping with the legacy of Cité Falguière as a safe haven during the tumultuous 20th century, L’AiR Arts is pleased to offer scholarships to selected candidates from less economically developed countries (the OECD’s ODA list), as well as to artists at risk and in exile.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our artists, supporters, local program co-hosts, and institutional partners for upholding the welcoming spirit of the École de Paris and advancing international solidarity through cross-cultural dialogue and exchange.

“I'm still swimming in the joy and gratitude of taking part in this incredible residency alongside such smart, talented, and inspiring women— the artists I shared this time with, the amazing women on the L'AiR Arts team, the generous artists and art historians who shared their time and knowledge, and the legacy of the incredible women who paved the way. Thank you so much for including me in this opportunity. It was more than a dream come true. I am so thankful.”
