Irena Bekić, Croatia
Irena Bekić obtained her degree in Art History and Comparative Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Since 2022, she has been the director of the Art Pavilion in Zagreb. Prior to that, since 1995, she has been employed at the Zagreb City Libraries as the head and curator of the Prozori (Windows) Gallery. She is interested in research on transformative curatorial and artistic practices and their potential, as well as in the collaboration between art and other disciplines, especially cultural anthropology. Irena publishes art criticism and forewords for
exhibitions and essays, curates exhibitions, and is the author and/or co-author of many artistic, educational, and research projects. Irena has curated over 200 exhibitions and projects. Among them are several multi-year artistic research projects, such as “Mother and Daughter” (2011, co-curated with Marijana Stanić), “Between There and There: Anatomy of Temporary Migration” (2017, co-curated with Duga Mavrinac), “Discarded: Contributions to Value Studies” (2021-2023, co-curated with Duga Mavrinac), and Andreja Kulunčić: “You Betrayed the Party Just When You Should Have Helped It” (2021 – ongoing; with Anca Mihulet Kim). She is also the founder of the IPAK Association – ‘Research Projects and Authorial Concepts’ and a member of ULUPUH (the Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts) and the Croatian Section of AICA. |
