Atelier 11 Open Studio

October 2 & 3, 2026
3 pm - 7 pm
Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, 75015 Paris

L'AiR Arts is pleased to present Paris-based artist Irene Calderón in dialogue with incoming artist-in-residence, Vanessa Brown for an open studio event during the National Artists Days / Journées Nationales des Artistes (JNA) 2026.

In painting, Irene explores dreamlike universes infused with shadows, mysteries, symbols, and abysses. In sculpture and installation, Vanessa gathers objects of intrigue that invoke care, protection, and sorority.

Meeting through stillness, Irene Calderón and Vanessa Brown share themes of symbolism and mythologies in their work. The presentation examines moments of quiet or of inexplicability, considering how quiet forms invite new perceptions of power and agency. Atelier 11 welcomes connection, research, and creative exchange—where artists share their work in dialogue during the residency and beyond.

Irene Calderón

Irene Calderón (Costa Rica/ France) expresses her artistic vision through oil painting, exploring the human figure—especially the female body—with sensitivity and depth. Beyond physical likeness, her work seeks to reveal the inner life of her subjects through light and atmosphere, capturing fragments of emotion and psychological presence.

Her paintings evoke both the tangible and the invisible, reflecting the essence of each individual and the atmospheres they inhabit. Rooted in her Costa Rican background, Calderón’s work weaves in elements of culture, landscape, and the quiet ambiguity of painting from a place seldom linked to oil traditions —turning questions of identity, belonging, and context into an integral part of her art.

Vanessa Brown

Vanessa Brown (Canada / Luxembourg) works in sculpture, video, and installation. Her practice involves transmitting her subjective experiences through specific materials, particularly those with rich histories such as metal and glass, that offer a hands-on relationship to craft. Informed by research, Brown creates work that reconsiders historical uses of these materials to create new unanticipated affiliations, thereby pushing the boundaries of their traditional uses.

Her practice is centered on the body—its presence, needs, and sensory experiences in space—explored through the lenses of clothing, adornment, and tactility. Recent projects investigate how grief, ritual, and transcendence manifest in material culture and architecture, weaving elements of healing, protection, and craft to evoke presence, care, and awe.
