Open Studio

Atelier 11 - June 2026

Wednesday, 24 June, 2026
4 pm - 8 pm
Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, 75015 Paris

Is the work from previous artists relevant today? What happens when an artist looks at and uses works from previous artists as a springboard? What new work can flow from looking at the works of previous generations?

Join us at the Atelier 11 Open Studio to meet our current artist-in-residence, Cecilia Hedlund, as she engages in a visual dialogue with the past artists of Cité Falguière. During the residency, Cecilia will research the works of previous artists who have worked in the studio, making a selection based on intuition and curiosity. The project will unfold within the limits of time and space, allowing the process itself to guide the work. We invite you to discover what emerges through this exploration.

About Cecilia Hedlund

Cecilia Hedlund (b. 1984) is a multimedia artist based in Sweden. In her practice Cecilia Hedlund works with the human relationship to nature. She works out in the landscape or cityscape with painting, drawing and sculpting.

Through researching into the human attitude to nature, reading Philosopher Bruno Latour, Researchers Alexander von Humboldt, Physicist Karen Barad in order to understand the human relationship to nature in greater depth, she also uses her practice to try natural processes of erosion, charcoaling, composting, oxidisation, and so on.

By using these processes she tries ways of cooperating with nature. Such processes only work if certain conditions of temperature, humidity, etc. are right. It is in recognition of humans’ inferiority to nature that is the basis of Hedlund’s work.

As part of the project Cecilia Hedlund led an workshop with students from the Swedish Royal Institute of Arts teaching charcoal rubbings as an alternative documentation method. Charcoal rubbings are usually used for documentation of rock art in Sweden. This work was exhibited at the Swedish Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2024–2025.
