International Residency Program
The aim of this residency program is to encourage artistic encounters and foster cultural exchanges for artists from all over the world. The programme is specially designed to enable participants to evaluate their place as an international artist in Paris and situate their artistic exploration and practice within both the historical and contemporary context.
This residency will not only give you the opportunity to explore Paris and have space in which to comfortably stay and work, but will also give you a self reflexive insider’s view into the important role that international artists have played in Paris from the late 19th century to the present day.
Located in Montparnasse, our host partner, FIAP Paris, provides a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere with rooms and spaces designed for your comfort. As an International Exchange Centre, it fosters initiatives which contribute to the promotion of a global citizenship.
"I dive into my thoughts, I fly above the world" - Marc Chagall, Ma Vie / My Life
Open Studio, Art Research Residency, October 2018
“This was an in-depth introduction to the art historical legacy and contemporary art scenes in Paris today. Together with a wonderful team of historians and curators, we were able to gain access to many art venues, from major art museums and institutions hosted by their in-house representatives, to secluded historical sites, and artists studios, welcomed to local Paris-based arts communities. I highly recommend this for artists who seek deep immersion in the history and legacy of Paris and its profound influence on international art and culture.”
- Marie Thibeault, artist and Professor of Art at California State University,
Los Angeles, United States (Artist-in-Residence, 2018)
"My experience at L’AiR Arts residence is an intensive immersion into a professional art environment and the opportunity to discuss my current practice with curators, gallery owners and colleagues, which allows me to adjust the direction of further work and gives a powerful impetus to the development of my art. The residency program involves daily visits to several exhibitions and events related to art, deep reflection and work in the studio. This is exactly the place where the answers to questions that I as an artist, asked myself become clear. It changes the attitude towards art itself, making it possible to understand that art is not a closed and complex system of codes, but a vast world full of amazing people, discoveries and experience. L’AiR Arts is the best residency I've ever participated."
- Anastasia Venkova, Russia (Artist-in-Residence, 2019)
“My experience with L'AiR Arts has been rewarding from the beginning. I was very fortunate to receive partial scholarship and the opportunity to exchange an artwork with a collector overseas. The intensive research into the historical and contemporary art world during my residency in Paris, was well organised and accurately structured. What otherwise would have been inaccessible for me, the residency provided me with a unique exposure, which I believe to be as essential for a young artist like me starting to move her way into the global art world. I believe such experiences provided by L'AiR Arts, and supporters of art to be instrumental in an artist's career. Transparency, support and genuinity is everything that L'AiR Arts offered to me.”
– Mahima Kapoor, India (Artist-in-Residence, 2018)
"The hosts of the L'AiR Arts residency made my artist residency a complete experience. Their enthusiasm, hospitality, professionalism and extensive knowledge of the location and art history, were the essence of what every artist expects from a high quality residency. The encouragement, education and support offered during my entire residency, was beyond brilliant. I would most certainly apply for any future artists residency hosted by the L'AiR Arts."
