Home to more than a hundred historical residents, Cité Falguière is known for its prominent male artists, such as Amedeo Modigliani and Chaïm Soutine. As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the historic Atelier 11, we are committed to reconstructing the broader history of this exceptional community by uncovering the lives and work of the lesser-known women artists who also shaped it.

In addition to the last permanent resident of Atelier 11, the French artist of Serbian-Russian origin Mira Maodus (born 1942), we are pleased to share the stories of four historical women artists of the Cité Falguière:

Lilian de Glehn Thibaut (1872–1951), an English painter active during the Roaring Twenties, resident at 14 Cité Falguière from 1912–1938.

Mania Mavro (1889–1969), a painter born in the Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine), resident at 14 Cité Falguière between 1913–1914.

Zofia Piramowicz (1880–1958), a Polish painter of Armenian origin, resident at 7 Cité Falguière from 1926–1932.

Fanny Rozet (1881–1951), a sculptor and the first woman admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, resident at 9 Cité Falguière in 1914.

By bringing greater visibility to underrepresented artists, this initiative aims to document the personal histories of all those who have lived and worked at Cité Falguière — past, present, and future.

As our research continues to grow, we hope this online archive will shed new light on this remarkable artistic community and enrich the study of the École de Paris. This cycle, we received nearly 1,400 applications from across the globe, each reflecting the unique voices, talents, and potential of the artists and cultural professionals who applied.

While we are unable to respond to all applicants due to the high volume of submissions and our limited capacity, we are deeply grateful for the time and effort you dedicated to preparing and sharing your work with us.

Residencies are awarded on a rolling basis, based on the review of each application and the availability of spots within our programs. Selected candidates will receive an official invitation letter detailing the residency dates, conditions, and next steps.

Applications remain open year-round through our no-fee, multi-program application form, welcoming artists and cultural professionals of all nationalities, disciplines, and career stages.

We invite artists and cultural professionals of all ages, from all countries and all creative disciplines to become a part of the long-standing artistic and cultural legacy, while fostering intercultural exchange and creative mobility. 

The 2025 open call offers individual art residencies, curated group programs and partnership opportunities. Full and partial scholarships as well as self-funded options are available. ​


Applications may be submitted on an ongoing basis with two deadlines per year - October 31st and April 30th.

]]><![CDATA[Atelier 11 celebrates heritage recognition!]]>Thu, 16 May 2024 07:00:00 GMThttps://www.lairarts.com/news/atelier-11-celebrates-heritage-recognitionOn May 15th, L’AiR Arts and Cité Falguière Associations, in partnership with the Île-de-France Region, were pleased to unveil the plaque in recognition of the Atelier 11 Cité Falguière’s heritage.

Awarded in November 2023, the Label Patrimoine d'intérêt régional is bestowed upon sites with significant architectural and historical value. Last month, it was supplemented by a 150 000€ grant towards the restoration of the Atelier 11 as a remarkable building. 
Backed by the Fondation du Patrimoine and Fondation de France, the project requires further support in order to restore and revive Atelier 11’s architectural and artistic heritage. To celebrate its international significance, we’ve created opportunities for everyone from around the world to participate in this living heritage project in a meaningful and rewarding way.
