2025 Call for Partner Institutions
In preparation for the 150th Anniversary of the historic Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, L’AiR Arts is inviting cultural, academic and arts institutions worldwide to become partners in this unique living heritage initiative by creating art residency opportunities for their candidates in Paris.
Established in 1875, Atelier 11 stands as the last surviving studio of the world’s longest-running international artists’ residency still in operation. Once a thriving L'École de Paris hub boasting home-ateliers of Gauguin, Foujita, Modigliani, Brancusi and Soutine, it hosted hundreds of French and international artists throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Recently recognized as a heritage site, Atelier 11 is scheduled to undergo rehabilitation to continue welcoming artists and cultural professionals as an International Arts Research Residency.
To celebrate the inclusive history of the École de Paris and to foster intercultural exchange, L’AiR Arts launches a global call for partner institutions interested in offering art residency opportunities for their candidates at Atelier 11 in Paris. Residents must receive support from one or more cultural partners who assume responsibility for covering the costs associated with the residency.

Read what our residents have to say about their experience at Atelier 11 in Paris
My recent experience at Atelier 11 with L’AiR Arts afforded me a comfortable live-work space and a supportive community who helped me to focus on the creation of new work for a solo exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, organized in partnership with my gallery RX&SLAG, Paris - New York. The daily exchange of creative ideas, the communal meals, and an overall sense of camaraderie between myself, the team at L’AiR Arts, and former resident artists, helped me focus on the task at hand, continually feeding my inspiration. During my residency, I became aware of the history of Montparnasse and felt connected intergenerationally to the artists I admire. An original creative energy emanated from the walls of the atelier. I feel fortunate to have experienced its history and to count myself as one of the many artists propelling it into the future.
- Tamara Kostianovsky, visual artist, Argentina / USA (Atelier 11 resident, 2024)
My experience with L'AiR Arts residency program at Atelier 11 has had a lasting impact on my career and artistic practice. Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, it gave me an opportunity to develop ideas for new work, dialogue with international artists and broaden my awareness of the global artistic landscape and my place within it. As part of a self-directed residency at Atelier 11, I created a dance film that has since been screened internationally. The development I fostered through my experiences with L'AiR has catapulted me forward in my artistic vision, self assurance and body of work. |
As soon as I arrived at Atelier 11 in Cité Falguière, it was immediate for me to imagine it as a precious place emerging from the depths of history. As a curator, it allowed me to have a base in the city from which to freely come into contact with the cultural reality of Paris, its local artists and institutions. Allowing yourself a period of time for pure research is as much a luxury as a necessity for cultural professionals and Atelier 11 certainly offers a dimension of this type. I believe that the creation of a transversal network of institutions and people operating in the international cultural field is a shared objective that becomes achievable in the presence of a direction. |
My experience at Atelier 11 with L'AiR Arts was especially important for me as a painter. Being in the same space frequented by canons like Modigliani was like touching the history of painting with my hands. Organized in partnership with Instituto Inclusartiz in Brazil as part of my exhibition at Espace Frans Krajcberg in Paris, my residency at Atelier 11 was strongly inspired not only by the ease of access to other cultural sites and museums, but also by the exchanges with other residents, local artists and cultural professionals. It was a very fruitful first trip to Paris!
- Marcela Cantuária, visual artist, Brazil (Atelier 11 resident, 2023)
My time with L’AiR Arts at Atelier 11 was inspiring, reflective, and transcendent. As a multimedia sculptor and a research faculty in art, the residency gave me an opportunity not only to directly experience the city’s rich cultural and art heritage, but also to engage with the supportive community. As part of the open studio event I have presented my ongoing interdisciplinary project, exploring the intersection between architecture, sculpture, and mythology through multimedia sound and sculptural installation. I came back home with a refreshed mind and new friendships - an invaluable opportunity for personal and professional growth for any artist or researcher. |
My residency at the Atelier 11 proved to be a profound exploration. Immersed in the space, I engaged in a dialogue with its history, creating an archive of drawings that could spark future creative endeavors. This experience not only benefited my artistic practice, but also paved the way for collaborative opportunities for other faculty members of Paris College of Art to apply for short-term residencies, further enriching their artistic pursuits. Through our joint efforts, we also established an award program for graduate students with L’AiR Arts, providing them invaluable growth opportunities. |
As an artist and educator, over the two weeks of my research residency with L’AiR Arts at Atelier 11, I was able to form the foundation for a new body of work and expand my professional network. The residency hosts offered a wealth of information, were welcoming, well organized, generous in time and attention and generally brilliant. The time spent with other creative thinkers and makers in discussions and shared experiences was energizing and productive. I left with fresh perspectives, new knowledge, and new connections with peers from around the world: a truly valuable time in a great environment.
