On September 17 & 18, Atelier 11 will participate in the 2022 European Heritage Days on the theme Sustainable Heritage
To celebrate the historical legacy of the Atelier 11 as it becomes an International Arts Research Residency, the event will feature a group exhibition Neighbours / Des Voisin.e.s curated by Clare Patrick.
Considering a home and spaces of comfort, this exhibition presents the work of artists creating outside of their home countries. Neighbours is a group exhibition that approaches the idea of community through praxis and creating, through exploration and introspection. Becoming part of a global community, artists draw on their histories, cultural experiences and memories while practising away from home. The artists in the exhibition engage in a developing discussion about where we are. The project is predicated on how artists collaborating and working across networks, distance and proximity.
Drawing on the history of the Cité Falguiere, the exhibition emphasises the participation of artists from around the world, who may or may not yet have interacted with Atelier 11. The focus is on connections across a diverse network linked through an engagement with history, historical thinking and the principles of an artist residency: experimentation, learning and sharing.
Thinking transnationally, globally and virtually, the artworks draw on the diverse range of practices that can be engaged with, through acknowledgement and respect for our neighbours, past and present.
