11 Cité Falguière, 75015 Paris Conceived by Caterina Taurelli Salimbeni during the residency with L'AiR Arts at Atelier 11 – Cité Falguière, FONDALE is an investigation on the concept of depth through the realms of time and space, what lies between the visible and non visible, reality and perception. Playing with the duality of the term, which in Italian means both the bottom of the sea or of a watery ecosystem and the backdrop of a theatrical or film setting; the exhibition’s aim is to shed a light over the change in perspective, staying in the passage from object to subject and thus putting into discussion their relationship and agency. The presentation is the starting point of a major investigation on the relationship between woman and water, called I WILL DRAW YOU TO THE DEEP WHERE YOU NEVER DREAMED TO SLEEP. The title is lended by the video from Laure Prouvost, that the artist exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2019, when she transformed the French Pavillon into a watery environment. Translated in the context of the atelier, the idea is to let emerge what is usually hidden down in the depths of history and collective consciousness to the surface. |
Inspired by the history and characteristics of the atelier, the curator has invited a group of Paris-based artists to interact with the space, subtly transforming it into a deep environment yet stopped in time. A selection of works by Rotem Gerstel, Corinna Gosmaro, Ángela Jiménez Durán and Xolo Cuintle, that share a theme in research on memory and matter, emerge from the space as they have always been part of it and at the same time activating new visions and images.
