Historical residents of Cité Falguière
Research in progress
During its 150-year history, Cité Falguière’s artists' studios served as a working and living place for more than a hundred French and international artists. Some of the renowned names include Amedeo Modigliani, Tsuguharu Foujita, Constantin Brancusi, Chaïm Soutine, and Paul Gauguin. Others are lesser-known artists from various countries around the world, such as Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Japan, the U.S., Germany, Britain, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Romania, Serbia, Belgium, Portugal, Hungary, Turkey, Iran, and Cuba.
As part of our research initiative, we aim to uncover the individual stories of all the Cité Falguière’s residents, focusing on women and artists from minority groups. We believe this effort will enrich the study of modern art history, and in particular the École de Paris, while creating a lasting resource that will serve as a creative continuum spanning three centuries for artists, scholars, and the wider public.
