Maria Mohonea, Romania / United Kingdom
Maria Mohonea’s work revolves around ideas of freedom and the role of women in a ‘post- feminist’ society.
Her works aim to make bold cultural and social statements which spark dialogue around contemporary issues, such as female sexuality and rights within a traditionally patriarchal society. Spawning work within a constructive and creative process is her way to protest against the crimes of injustice and discrimination which show the lack of engagement with society. In her practice Mohonea focuses on the description of human feelings and emotions by showing that physical and mental suffering are interdependent. Using this focus Maria’s works are intended to provoke strong emotions within the audience. Maria Mohonea graduated with an MA in Painting from the University of Arts, Wimbledon, London in October 2018 having previously obtained a BA in Fine Arts from the University of East London in July 2017. |
