Marianne Walker, Great Britain
Marianne Walker is a London based artist, she gained a MA Sculpture from Wimbledon College of Art in 2002 and received the Observer Magazine New British Artist Award for her final exhibition, a pencil drawn installation.
Marianne sees her practice as sitting right on the cusp between drawing and sculpture. She is always attempting to draw across three dimensions, to bring the drawn mark into the real world. To date she has made drawings into films and installations as well as more traditional works on paper. Marianne Walker remains committed to the research and practice of drawing: "I admire its low-fi transportability and am attracted to the medium’s paradoxical character of physical humility combined with conceptual sophistication. Graphite’s beguiling metallic and almost sci-fi physicality continue to offer plenty of scope for exploration." Her work has been featured in national and international exhibitions including the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2002(UK Touring), Romantic Detachment 2004 (PS1 Moma New York) Contemporary British Drawing 2015 (Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts China) and Artworks Open 2018 (Barbican Arts Group, London). |
