Rowan Faqih, Palestine
A few months before her thirtieth birthday, Rowan Faqih decided to make a film, and after taking that first step, like a hero’s journey a path opened up in front of her, fraught with adventure, new experiences, obstacles, guides and monsters. She has worked with film, photography, writing, jewelry making, textiles, and recycled material. She is in search of storytelling, ancient wisdom, and divination rituals that helped societies across many cultures heal and survive. Her current practice revolves around trauma, the complicity involved in hiding, and covering it up, out of guilt, shame or fear.
Her films have been screened at a number of film festivals and museums including Oberhausen, Locarno, Visions du Reel, Docusur, Tate Modern, Jeu de Paume, Macro Contemporary Art Museum, Cinema Tout Ecran, Carthage and ArteEast Touring Program. |
