Sacha Durand, France
Sacha Durand is a young filmmaker who is passionate about historic art and the museum environment. When looking at old paintings she discovers possibilities which inform her own style: how to present a singular aesthetic and explore stories that are often centered around bodily themes.
"I try to express all that is strange and bizarre about the body: the fascination and disgust that can develop, and the link it has with language." She explored this in 2021, by creating a dance video that responded to a song by Gaël Faye (lyrics by Christiane Taubira) entitled, "Alone and Defeated." Originally trained as an actress in Lyon, London and Madrid, Sacha practiced stunt work and dancing while also studying English, Spanish and Arabic. It took her a long time to find a discipline that brought all her passions together. After moving to Paris in 2020, she obtained a diploma in art marketing at IESA, and reconnected with art history and museums. “I am very touched by symbolist painters and Spanish cinema – there is a kind of melancholy and extravagance in these two art forms which fascinate me.” While working as an actress and guide at the Opéra Garnier she discovered Marcello - which became her next project. Filmed in May 2023, the exhibition and screening of "Marcello" will take place on December 14th at Atelier 11 - one of the main locations featured in the film. |
