​Sophia van Wyk, Pretoria, South Africa 

Sophia van Wyk (b. 1981, South Africa) completed her Master’s in Fine Art (Cum Laude) at the University of Johannesburg in 2015. Since then she has exhibited internationally and locally. Van Wyk’s recent works captures significant moments, both socio-political and personal. In her sculptures and paintings van Wyk creates subversive and non- representational biomorphic forms that becomes a metaphor for ‘new meaning’. Through these abstract sculptural and painted shapes she examines her inter- action with the world with regards to current social injustices and her personal history and memories.

This year van Wyk participated in the American Express Winter Sculpture Fair at Nirox Sculpture Park (Johannesburg) and in various group shows.
