Una Laurencic, Serbia
Una Laurencic was born in 1997 in Belgrade, Serbia. At the age of fifteen, she enrolled in the School of Design, where she was learning how to work as a graphic designer for four years. In 2015, she spent two weeks in Trieste on a student exchange with Enrico & Umberto Nordio Art School. After graduating from high school, 2016, she started studying at the Faculty of Applied Arts, the University of Art in Belgrade, in the Photography department. At her fourth (final) year on bachelor studies, she was selected to study one semester at the Estonian Academy of Arts, in Tallinn. Una have exhibited her work in group exhibitions in Serbia, America, Estonia, and Kosovo, several times at festivals and one solo exhibition in Belgrade (Chamber of Commerce, 2018). Her interest is in conceptual photography and focus on expanding the medium of photography.
Una's work explores the relationship between raw reality and latent emotions, combining text with photographs and mostly focusing on documentary yet creative photography. The images are usually complimented with the text (or name) witch gives them another layer of personal comment on the subject. The method of connecting context is expressed through the contrast between the narrative itself and already familiar (traditional) things. In her work, the absence of the expected is noted. In an attempt to portray vulnerable life situations with a certain amount of humor and social critique, she is still exploring with different equipment and media. |
