Yen Ha, Vietnam / United States
Yen Ha is an architect and maker of spaces, stories, drawings and dinners. Born in Saigon, she currently resides in New York City where she co-founded Front Studio, an architecture firm, in 2001. Awarded residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and MASS MoCA, her short stories bave been honored by Glimmertrain’s Short Story New Writers Contests and the New Rivers Press American Prize. Yen’s drawings are carried by Goods for the Study in Greenwich Village and at 20x200.com.
Shaped by constraints of time and space, she is interested in the cumulative nature of small-scale makings. Moving through drawing, sewing and writing, she incorporates imagery drawn from the details of a woman’s daily life into her work. She seeks to elevate the menial labor that makes up a mother’s world, creating permanent works of those endless, repetitive tasks. |
