Funding Opportunities
Although some financial assistance is available through L'AiR Arts Association, our subsidized and funded residencies are very limited, therefore we encourage applicants to raise their own funds to help cover the costs associated with the program.
You may wish to contact your local arts funding bodies, which offer travel grants or fund artist residencies abroad. Artists and cultural professionals from many countries around the world have access to arts councils and other platforms to apply for individual funding. Most arts councils are supportive of funding residencies for artists and many of our residents have benefited from such opportunities in the past.
All selected participants will be provided with a letter of acceptance for funding search through national and international funds. For your convenience, we have compiled a list of international opportunities that may help you fund your residency.

The second I received confirmation from L'AiR Arts of my successful application to the program, I hopped onto the grant websites. I viewed municipal, federal and provincial granting bodies to understand what offerings they have for international travel and residencies. I pinpointed two that I was eligible for and fit with the goals of the residency, which were also my personal goals. Both grant deadlines were luckily before my departure however the results would be delivered after I'd attended. So I accepted the residency knowing this risk and trusting in the granting bodies. I attended L'AiR in January 2020 and received notice of funding in April 2020 that I'd received the Arts Abroad sector funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. My investment in myself and my artistry was repaid to me. I'm so grateful to have taken the leap of faith in attending and honoured to be able to receive funding for the experiences I had with L'AiR Arts.

To lower the residency fees, L'AiR Arts actively works with various supporters in order to provide financial assistance to selected participants, with priority for artists based in less economically developed countries on the OECD's DAC List (Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Latin America and South East Asia) as well as artists at risk or in exile who are otherwise unable to attend the program. L'AiR Arts scholarships are also available to selected artists chosen by art patrons through our GIVE for ART program.
We are actively looking to expand the list of our partners and supporters to help more artists benefit from the professional development opportunity provided by our programs.
