Kyu Sang Lee, South Korea / South Africa / Germany
Kyu Sang Lee was born in 1993 in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. He received his BA in Fine Art from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, and he is currently studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig under Prof. Christin Lahr. Lee works and lives in Leipzig.
Lee works primarily with photography, extending and expanding his use of the medium to encompass installation, sound work, and moving images. He explores relationships between music and cinema, especially in the context of their narrative nature and the concept of time. In 2017, Lee won the Celeste Prize in Photography in London, juried by Fatoş Üstek. He also had exhibitions in Cape Town and Paris, featured at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair’s 2019 SOLO section, AKAA Paris in 2018, and Zeitz MOCAA in 2019. |
