Kyu Sang Lee
South Korea / South Africa / Germany On the occasion of open studio at the Atelier 11, Kyu Sang Lee will deliver a talk titled 'Composing an Image,' which will draw upon his œuvre and current project, focusing on his use of image and cinema with music as a language. Since 2013, Kyu Sang Lee has been working in photography, often expanding to videos and sound installations. His works of experimental photographs, moving images, and sound works draw questions regarding the concept of time in various contexts. By bringing the poetics of music into his projects, Lee draws attention to the partnership and clash between the medium of sound and image. At the open studio, Lee will present the process of his new ongoing project, which pivots around the orchestral piece Bolero (1928), composed by the French composer Maurice Ravel. Making references to the biography of Ravel and the history of music in the time he lived, Lee remarks on the ontology of art and the idea of aesthetics in cinema. |
Laura Porter
United States / France Laura Porter's artistic practice is marked by an interest in the genesis and transformations of common objects and techniques, the role of the body in edible and disposable economies, and modes of value production. At the open studio, Laura Porter will present a recent installation titled, No Eat No Treat, as well as her most recent video, Moho, made in collaboration with Valentin Lewandowski in 2022. Since 2014, Laura Porter and artist Valentin Lewandowski have collaborated on videos that cross-over with their respective solo-practices of installation and performance. As an interdisciplinary artist who works in sculpture, video, drawing, and installation, Laura Porter will also present her research and preliminary experiments with a "fingernail armor" installation. |
Presented in a casual home-studio atmosphere, join the artists for a glass of wine and/or bring a drink of your choice.
