Laura Porter, United States / France
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Laura Porter is an interdisciplinary artist who works in sculpture, video, drawing, and installation. She holds a doctorate in Fine Arts from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts / SACRe - PSL (2017). Laura’s artistic practice is marked by an interest in the genesis and transformations of common objects and techniques, the role of the body in edible and disposable economies, and modes of value production.
Her work has been presented in numerous institutions such as Triangle Asterides (Marseille), Palais des Beaux Arts (Paris), Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon (Sète), Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona), FRAC Champagne Ardenne (Reims), Bandjoun Station (Cameroun), In Extenso (Clermont-Ferrand), White Crypt (London), Escougnou-Cetraro Gallery (Paris), Totatoga Gallery (Busan) and Kunstwerk in Carlshütte (Büdelsdorf). Since 2014, Laura Porter and artist Valentin Lewandowski have collaborated on videos that cross-over with their respective solo-practices of installation and performance.
