Borders, Borderlands and Crossings
A work-in-progress showing exploring the movement of precious metals, seeds, and humans across borders, both imagined and real.
Four international L'AiR Arts alumni connect for a 7-week multi-disciplinary online creation residency, culminating in a public work-in-progress showing. Join in to share your thoughts and reflections from the budding creation with Kunji Mark Ikeda (Canada), Shireen Ikramullah Khan (Netherlands), Mayumi Lashbrook (Canada) and Eric Lawrence Taylor (USA).
This multicultural, multi-generational, multi-disciplinary team aims to generate new material surrounding: precious metals, seeds, and humans. Each member’s family history comes in close contact with the flow of commodities in relation to their migration, revealing fault lines resulting from globalization and exploitative international trade.
Their collective interests in artistic dialogue about lineage, migrational pulls and the relationship to the land on which we inhabit was sparked during residency in January 2020. The opportunity to bring this group of diverse people and disciplines together again offers a space to continue dialogue, and foster interconnected creativity.
We welcome you to follow Kunji, Shireen, Eric, and Mayumi's creative journey via their weekly post on our community blog:
The residency will culminate in a work-in-progress showing where you can witness, share and engage in the creative process.
