Atelier 11 Open Studio & Roundtable Discussion
You are invited for the unique opportunity to participate in the cultural revival of the historic artists' residency of Cité Falguière in Montparnasse
Saturday, May 28, 16h - 19h (4pm - 7pm)
Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, 75015 Paris Connected to the rich history of the École de Paris, the purpose of this event is to revisit and develop the creative energy of the École de Paris and its spirit of solidarity and unity that allowed the arts community to thrive in the heart of Europe. Similar to a century ago, during the inter-war period and the 1918 epidemic, the world is being greatly impacted by the pandemic and divisive politics. Today, more than ever, the cultural sector, especially the field of arts residencies, can play a critical role in facilitating international cooperation and exchange, ultimately supporting global solidarity. |
The event will feature a studio visit with the Atelier 11 current resident, Rodrigo Bueno from Brazil, as part of his his upcoming exhibition at Espace Frans Krajcberg. Located in the neighbouring Chemin du Montparnasse, just like Cité Falguière, it is known as a historic hub for international artists working and living alongside each other at the beginning of the 20th century.
To continue the tradition of cross-cultural exchange, the event will include a roundtable discussion with a group of artists from different parts of the world. Presented as part of L'AiR Arts Art Research Program, the goal is not only to highlight the important role that international artists have played in Paris during the 20th century, but also to support intercultural dialogue today.
The roundtable will be facilitated by Paris-based curator and art advisor Maya Mikelsone. Participating artists:
To borrow French scholar Michel Espagne’s concept of "cultural transfers,” artists are often catalysts for global mobility – 'vectors' in the cross-cultural exchanges that fuel the evolution of culture, politics, and society. Artists will reflect on how the intercultural exchange may influence their own artistic practice and also create a more inclusive and open society.
We invite you to join the artists and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about the impact of arts and culture on society.
